From Christmas toEaster, Jan. ,Feb., Mar., is the most expensive time of year, & the busiest. The day after Easter business drops off like clockwork every year, you can set your calendar on it. April, may, & part of June is cheaper & slower until the kids get out of school, then they raise the prices because all the families can go on vacation 'cause the kids are out of school, (this is changing a little now because of home schooling & year round school schedules)End of June, July, & August, prices go up again because they can. Sept is the most humid month, & Feb, March is the rainest. March in Maui has the most Whales. Aloha! Come visit, just don't forget to go home after you have spent all your money here. I can tell you the most expensive times are during December and January. The summer can be expensive because kids are out of school and families vacation in Hawaii. The rest of the months you have to check for specials. They're always changing. Usually February, after the holidays, you can catch specials. During spring break is not a good time. However, September is a good month to catch special airline prices to Hawaii.

Rates usually seem to be at their lowest in the first two weeks of November (before Thanksgiving) and the first two weeks of December (before Christmas break for students). Generally, summer is quite expensive, Christmas is break-the-bank expensive (twice as expensive or more as the rest of the year - last year I paid $900 R/T to get from L.A. to the Big Island at Christmas). March is also busy due to Spring Break.

Since the weather in Hawaii is so moderate, you really don't have to worry about seasonal weather. It's always warm and sunny, so November and December is just as good a time as any to visit the islands.

Just remember that it's cheapest to book your flight departing and returning on weekdays (Tuesday through Thursday) since most people like to travel Friday through Sunday, and there's some residual traffic left over on Mondays sometimes. Also, check with the local airlines (Hawaiian Airlines - http://www.hawaiianair.com and Aloha Airlines - http://www.alohaair.com) for generally the best deals. I've tried Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, Cheap Tickets, etc. but they tend to be more expensive than booking with the airlines themselves. The larger carriers like United, Continental, etc. also tend to be more expensive than Hawaiian and Aloha. American Trans Air (ATA) sometimes offers good deals as well.

I'd suggest that you sign up for the email newsletters from Hawaiian and Aloha, which send you offers on super round-trip discounts every now and then. I've seen amazing deals from these newsletters over the year, and they usually give you at least three months to travel using the discount fare when you book. So, be patient and keep an eye out...it can save you a lot of money! Have fun in Hawaii!
