If it stinks it probably has an infection and will need antibiotics to clear up. You will have to take it to the vet.

There are solutions you can buy at the pet stores that work really well. Ant dog that has the flopped over ears are prone to infection and that is why your dog ears smell. If you can not get rid of the infection with over the counter treatment you need to take him to the vet and get antibiotics or antibiotic ointment. Afte that make sure you frequently clean the ears to avoid the infections.

It could have earmites. Have you looked in the dogs ear to see if there is a lot of dirt, discharge or dark "dirt" looking stuff?? You should take the dog to the vet. This is not an option if you have problems. However, there is some over the counter earmite meds and ear cleaner at a place like petsmart. Buy the best they have, to get rid of things quickly before the problem turns into something greater.

Start cleaning them - take a q-tip...

Then go to the vet to get ear medication to avoid a further infection.

Chances are the shitzu was bathed and his/her ears were not dried out properly - causing a build up of the ugliest brown stuff going...

And yes, shitzus are prone to ear infection...

Be careful - see the vet...

If his ear smells there is an infection and the dog needs to go to a vet. Tell your mom that if she doesn't want to take it to a vet then she shouldn't have a dog. You shouldn't treat the dog unless you know what you are doing.

Hi,

Take him to the river & let him Swim. I i have a lab, i tried cleaning them with just about everything, even got meds & drops from the vet. Nothing help. But we took him to the river one day with us about 2 years ago Left him swim for about an hour & the did not stink or smell for about 3 months. He probally has ear mites The river will wash them away and any infection that they cause. Work wounderful for him, now i take him about every 2 months, And it doesn't cost a dime.. Gotta love that.. Good Luck

I'm not sure that you are supposed to put hydrogen peroxide in animals ears, so you may want to ask your vet if it's OK that you do that. Your dog may have some sort of infection, or something in his ear. I would take him to the vet because I'm pretty sure smelly ears aren't normal, especially just one smelly ear.

My dogs ear was red and smelling really bad...we took him to the vet and he had an ear infection. So take the dog to the vet and get ear drops for him.

You need to take your dog to the vet. It has an infection if its ear stinks. If it is not handled soon your dog could go deaf. Once you get it to go away you need to clean its ears more often.

Take the dog to the vet!!!!
If there is a yeast infection in the ear, it will persist until the underlying cause for the inflammation in the ear is diagnosed and treated.
