I wouldn't worry too much. Unless it's affecting you to the point where you can't happily live your day-to-day life, it might just be a phobia, like some people have of the dentist or (in my case, a little weird I know) chickens.
The fact you have a shower curtain probably isn't helping, because you can't see through it and so it can make you concerned about who is lurking behind it, even though it's likely to be no-one. Invest in a new shower curtain that is made of clear plastic - it's easy to see through, and so you can always see that there is no-one there. If you get one with little fish or something printed on it, it should also brighten things up and make everything a bit more cheery! Try taking showers in the day when it's light, and maybe plug a stereo in (keep it well away from the water, of course) to listen to music. The time when you're afraid is only when you're in the shower, so try making that time special. Quiety re-affirm the idea in your head that taking a shower means time to pamper yourself - soon enough you'll think of showers as positive, and this should also help to reduce your fear.
As to a cause, it's hard to say. Maybe when you were younger someone startled you in the shower, or you saw a scene in a movie and it subconciously affected you - it could even have been in the preview for a movie on TV or at the cinema, that you have forgotten about and it's just kinda imprinted on your memory. Either way, it's important not to let it affect your life.
Best of luck hon,
Emma

There is a particular image that has fixed itself into your subconscious during a moment of heightened anxiety (quite possibly from a horror movie). The shower acts as a visual trigger that brings that image into your mind and replays the emotions that you felt at that time.
This happens to everybody to different degrees. If you feel that this is affecting your life it may be a good idea to talk to a therapist of some kind. Psychology is a fairly well understood science now and there are many ways in which your anxiety can be reduced.
Oh, and you're not nuts. You just have an emotional trigger that needs to be addressed.

When the movie has ended your brain and your emotions still remember it. Some people are not affected by this while others, like you, may find themselves being tormented by what they saw. Personally, I never watch scary movies because I know that I will have nightmares afterward. People like you and I should never allow ourselves to be entertained by this kind of movie. I enjoy romantic movies, comedies and even some of the old Disney shows. This might seem childish, but I'm certainly not frightened or imagining things so I sleep very peacefully. Relax, you're going to be just fine.

ever have a traumatic experience? you say you don't watch many horror movies.. but all the time you still feel you are living one kind of.. you are paranoid that someone is going to get you? well has it happened yet? either something like that has happened to you.. or something bad enough to keep you scared.. or you are just paranoid and need to deal with your fears.. if it's the first, then get some counseling.. if it's the second.. try reminding yourself that it's not real, you are fine and no one is coming to get you... if you don't see progress and it continues to distract from your life to the point it becomes debilitating, then you should seek counseling. either way good luck.

Its normal I do the same thing though I do watch horror movies. I think its just your sub-conscience mind playing with you. Try not to freak yourself out to much though you'll go crazy. Just tell yourself that nothing is there or play music while your in the shower to take your mind off of it. Hope it helps.

When you get in the shower tell yourself your going in there to do one thing and "it's take a shower". I have this problem too if i think about it; so I don't think about it.
Have you ever been chased with a knife? I was when I was little. It was some cruel kids playing with us. Maybe that is what it is all about.

Why not try a see through shower curtain, so that you can see the whole bathroom from the shower.
I was like that for awhile when I was living alone. I was scared about lots of things. But I finally got alot more secure.

It could have been a thought you picked up somewhere and kept repeating, as thoughts tend to do. So now it's a ritual.
