For example, my older sister usually relaxes my hair for me, but since I didn't have money to give her, one time I did it myself. Everyone complimented me on my hair, including my mother, who didn't know I had done it. But, when I finally told my mother that I was the one who did my hair, she frowned and said "You shouldn't do that because your hair could come out." Mind you, my hair didn't come out at all. In fact, I had no problems while doing it or after I did it. My father is the same way, and so are some of my other relatives. Everythinig I do or have done, they expect me to screw it up, even if I do a good job of it. And they very rarely compliment something I do. Why are they like this?

I don't think it's right either, but my family does it all the time too, I was watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" and Marie (the mom) said to her other son (which it's the one that she always talks good about) how proud she is of her elder son, then her younger son asks her why she never tells him, she simply says that it's because she doesn't want him to take it over his head, meaning, that she knows he is great, but if she told him then he wouldn't have accomplished as much as he has. And I thought to myself well maybe that is how my family is, they are proud of me in silence. People can be very weird when it comes to feelings and compliments, especially family.

I have the same problem with my family. I am the youngest and I think they don't want me to grow up. They want me to depend on them forever!!!! Just remember if you don't try you have already failed. You have to take the good with the bad. Don't let them stop you from trying new things. You can do anything you put your mind to. I believe in you!!!

You got dealt a family who isn't very supportive. Don't believe them or buy into their negativity. Know that you CAN succeed and WILL succeed. Many people have this kind of curse in their families and really let it kill their spirit. You can rise above it.
