All schools are required to have an equal ops/diversity policy .
Often erroneously this is taken to mean that everyone ought to be treated the same. However, good practice dictates that an individual's special needs have to be taken into account.

In the UK it means giving to minorities before the indigenous white Englishman who is not gay or disabled.
