Um, other people: there is this crazy thing called preschool! (which i know has been around for at least 30 years). So lay off of her... Anyway, once she starts the antibiotics, she should be fine to return because pneumonia is not contagious. However, if she is coughing a lot and might be disruptive, or feels bad, then keep her home!

Have to agree with memichelle - what are you guys talking about - three year old is preschool. What the heck is wrong with sending a three year old to preschool. It's very common nowadays to send a child to preschool and PreK. I think it's good for them.

To answer the question - normally I think when they are symptom free for at least 24 hours. But with pneumonia I would ask your doctor.

Why are you sending a 3 year old to school in the first place? Check a book an psychology and development and I think you'll find that at age 3 a child does not need to learn socialization or interaction skills, what they need is their parents and to feel safe & secure.

3 years old and in school? Why are people so anxious to get rid of their kids these days? What ever happened to being a toddler?

Good time to send her back to school? How about when she turns 5?

What's everyone's rush to get their children in school?! Mine is 5 and in kindergarten and I miss him daily...when he's sick...he's my baby! He stays home until he's completely well..
She's 3 yrs old and was very sick...you should be wanting her to STAY home and be completely well before you push her back in...cause if there are sick kids in her class...she's got a weakend immune system..and she'll just get sick again!

I would ask a doctor, rather than anyone on here. She is liable to be run down for quite some time.

After she has taken the full course of antibiotics that her physician has prescribed, and shows no symptoms.
