The needles are already sterilized. They come prepackaged.
And once a needle is used it is put right into a sharps container so we do not become contaminated. Just in case you wonder why we do not just use a used needle.

that's like saying, "why do they give inmates on death row food and water? they're gonna die anyway."
the idea of the lethal injection is to cause death, not infection or disease. it's supposed to maintain the idea of professionalism.
