John 3:

19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

I don't think most people have read enough of the bible to understand it let alone hate it. What they seem to hate is some of th claims made by Jesus about himself, the notion of heaven and hell, and some of the Christians who give the message a bad name. some of Hollywood and some of the media help promote these stereotypes so the public gets the impression that were all wild eyed survivalists endlessly misquoting bible passages that don't resemble the question.

No. This is not really referring to that. This is talking about how men chose whats wrong over whats right. And that they hate the light because basically when you are in the light what you have done wrong is exposed. And when you are in darkness it isn't. This is talking about hiding your sins. Hating the Bible doesn't really have anything to do with this verse.

What can I say about light, it burns the skin, causes cancer. It hurts the eyes. Darkness is good. Haven't you ever sat under the shade of a tree. The coolness of the shade.

Darkness rules and Light Doesn't
I wouldn't want people to see the skeletons that are in my closet.

no, i dont hate the bible, i just disagree with its ideals about women, children, and animals who were supposedly "made to serve man."
and darkness is not neccecarily a synonym for evil, neither is light neccicarily a synonym for good, that idea was probably made up by 2000 year old men who were afraid of the dark

No one hates the bible, they just don't believe it is the word of god.
What people hate is the evil done in the name of god by people who use the bible to suppport their actions.

If there is a light I am not scared of it as I have done no evil, my actions are more "christian" than most christians that I know

The bible says that man can know the difference between what is good and evil. We can't. Evil is a matter of opinion. People hate the bible because it is a man made book of rules. People hate written standard rules.

From an atheist: The bible is full of some good lessons to be learned, but it's also full of a lot of fiction and trash. The problem is people can't focus on learning the lessons only. They take the rest of it to an unsafe extreme.

I don't hate the bible -- I hate what people use it as justification to do, that's all.
It's just a book. It has some interesting parts, some boring parts, some decent life philosophy, and some interesting (but not necessarily accurate) writings passed down from oral histories.

Unfortunately, fanatics claim it's the revealed word of god, and as such use it to justify bigotry, hatred, ignoring real-world facts and science, "holy wars," and lots of other horrible things. That's not the book's fault, it's the greedy, hypocritcal, violent humans who use it to justify their acts that are at fault.

The Bible is a very powerful book.It is God's literal word that came down out of heaven from him.I did not realize just how powerful this beautiful book was until late 2004.I love the Bible(King James Version)and hold it deeply sacred.

no,

but it is why some people hate people who profess to believe in the bible.

...it is also why some people hate people who always quote the bible to answer all of life's problems.

...it is also why some people hate people who say they believe in the bible but do not live according to what the bible tells them to.

and maybe it why a few people hate other people for no apparent reason at all.
