Well
There are many factors that can attribute to hair recession or massive hair fall and you need to find out which one exactly is responsible for the problem you are having now. Of course male pattern baldness is still the most common cause, but, for instance, if you are a woman things are deinitely different! This is the reason why you will need to really dig down and see the source of your problem.
Other causes of hair loss may include (both in men and women): severe mental or emotional stress, excessive use of coloring or bleaching agents, traction alopecia or excessive strain on the scalp due to braiding or corn rowing, hormonal changes, alopecia areata or hair loss due to autoimmune diseases, and many more. Each of these conditions will require a different approach in order to achieve success regardless of whether you're going to be using conventional or natural methods.
In my opinion it's much better to use natural methods as opposed to conventional ones, they're cheaper, have less to no side effects, and often more effective.
A good way of regaining your full head of healthy natural hair is well described on this guide: http://hairagain.toptips.org
Hope it helps.

It's a compensation thing. None on the top so grow what you can.
Either that or the baldness is really the hair has slipped down to the face!

Testosterone levels - causes baldness on the head, facial hair stays the same. Not all bald men have beards and/or moustaches.

Because once they realise they've no hair left to cut or trim on the top of their heads many men simply can't be bothered cutting hair at all, but just give up on life and let their beards grow...
It's called dispair - and is probably linked to that famous old idiom (much favoured by idiots) traditionally referred to as "tearing your hair out."

I'm bald and don't have a beard. Maybe those who have a beard feel better with some hair on their head. Me? i'm comfortable with it.

Alot of baldies are more sexy with beards
I must include my husband in this group as when hes not working or when on hols he always leaves alot of stubble which drives me wild.
Men with facial hair always do better with women than those who are clean shaven.
Maybe its the caveman thing!!
I know I haven't answered your question but Its true what you have said.

I read somewhere that a beard or gotee steers attention away from your balding head.
