we'll see this one in future. Miguel Cotto vs. Rick Hatton. Who would you take. I don't know how good the chances are of seeing this possible fight, the way the fight game is these days.

Brent ~
In my opinion, Miguel would knock Ricky out in 6 rounds. Hatton is clearly one of the most overrated fighters out there. England and the bums he fought over there made Ricky. Ricky made the trip across the pound and paid the price for it. He was taken to school by a fighter his people thought he would destroy. Do you honestly believe that his camp said "Ricky me boy, we are going to go to America and we want you to fight this Collazo guy and we want you to look awful"?
Miguel improves with every fight he has. He gets knocked down, but he gets up and finishes the job in excellent fashion, he gets hurt and he puts on more pressure and he finishes the job, Cotto is naturally the bigger man and he seems to hit a lot harder than Hatton. Cotto's a much better boxer than Hatton and he throws the straighter punches which will land before any of Hattons wide looping punches.
There's another thing that I noticed about Ricky, he's a very dirty fighter, when he fought Tszyu he was using his head all night long and whenever Tszyu's corner complained the ref said "Now don't you be telling me how to do me job." his head is just as much a weapon as his fist are. He doesn't have the privilege over here of going out to the pubs with the Ref until the wee hours of the morning over here.
Thanks for the question Brent!

Would be an absolutely great match up of two of the best brawlers out there, I think most people on this site know i am a huge Hatton fan and follow him everywhere, so therefore i am a little biased when i say that Hatton would come out on top of this war especially at Light-Welter where Ricky is the dominant force in the world, and the reason would be that if Ricky gets on top of Cotto like Torres did he wont stop till hes out, and to be fair its not just Torres who has had him in trouble lately he seems to give everyone he fights lately a clean look at his chin, i love Cotto and the way he approachs the fight game as his fights are always a spectacle but i just think his days are numbered, especially if and when he comes up against someone with heavy hands like himself and i think Hatton could be that man. Lets hope that this match gets made.
I would just like to add after seeing shookones answer that he should please have a look at some of Hattons fights and see who is the more devastating Body puncher, dont answer if you havent seen both fighters properly, i agree Ricky had an off night against Collazo but still he aint no idiot ask Kosta Tszyu. The reason he hasnt took any offer to fight Cotto (if this is true) is because he wanted to go after Mayweather at Welter, seeing as Mayweather ran away from him at Light-Welter, i am sure after Hatton walks through Urango the next fight he will be looking for will definately be Cotto.

The brawler vs the boxer. Hatton is a very relentless fighter and some have even said that he fights dirty. Cotto is a better boxer but I question his chin. I believe that Hatton would definetly be the aggressor in this fight and probably would win some rounds because of it. Cotto would counterpunch effectively and outbox Hatton several rounds. I believe that this match would go to the cards with Hatton winning by split decision.

I HATE Ricky Hatton. I think he's a classless, dirty fighter who throws elbows, uses his head and really isnt a very skilled boxer
but who simply wins by mauling the other fighter relentlessly for
as many rounds as he can get away with.

That said, it seems as though Hatton is loved by the judges and the overall boxing promotion community for exactly the same reasons.

He's a brawler who draws huge audiences.

I watched the Collazo fight and thought Collazo clearly won but which was "given" to Hatton in a unanimous decision(115-112, 115-112, 114-113).

Collazo was robbed. He outboxed Hatton and hit him with harder
shots throughout the fight. Hatton knocked Collazo down early in
the fight when Collazo was off balance but didnt really hurt him.

Hatton has an unproven chin but should continue to win fights
as long as he remains in excellent shape and can do what he
does for the entire 12 rounds.

Kostya Tszyu was an old man by the time he fought Hatton so
to me, that wasnt that impressive. Other than Tszyu, Hatton
hasnt fought anyone.

The first time Hatton meets someone with a good punch and
boxing skills that is young enough to go 12 rounds, he's going to
lose.

I don't know much about Cotto except that he's won 13 of his last 15 fights by KO/TKO.

If this fight goes to the cards, Hatton will win but I doubt it will.

Seeing both boxers fight, I can see Cotto as more skilled fighter but can be easily Hurt.

Hatton is one dimensional who Mauls his opponent and punches non stop for as long the round last.

Both have tremendous Stamina and Heart but I will still Favor Science over Power.

I have to Pick Cotto by a close split Decision.

But This could be a Great Trilogy in the Making.

Ricky the Hitman Hatton at his best (Tzuyu best) will outfight Cotto. Cotto is a great fighter but Hatton to sneak it.

I'll go cotto on this since i saw him prove his worth. Hatton on the other fights main in england where he owns the judges. he should fight in las vegas against real boxers not does bums the completely over powers. Cooto is a much complete fighter and i think with much more experience in his resume cotto will win via decision. that is if the fight was held in las vegas with a completely neutral judges, if the judges were the same judges with the collazo bout forget about the cotto wins via decision thing. cotto will be robbed like collazo.
