Every night I walk 2-3 miles Mon-Fri. I am not loosing weight! My friend is though. We have been doing this for a little over a month. I have pco disease and want another child. I have been told if I loose weight (I weigh 185 now 5'5) then my chances will be higher. I don't understand why I am not loosing by walking? I only drink water too.

Typically walking is a good exercise for losing weight, but it's going to depend on a number of other factors, such as basal metabolic rate, calorie consumption, your rate of speed while walking, etc. There comes a time when simple walking alone is not going to increase your weight loss, because your leg muscles begin to develop more endurance, and your caloric consumption per unit of work will decrease. That is, you can walk the same distance as you did, say, 6 months ago, and you won't burn as many calories because your endurance has improved, and you aren't "stressing" your body and and working your heart as much as before. If you've found that you aren't losing anymore, I would suggest you increase the speed of your walk, maybe even to a jog, and get your heart rate up higher than you get it with a leisurely walk. You need to get it probably in the 140 range (depending on your age) and sustain it there for 20-30 minutes at a time. This will cause your body to release fat to burn for energy, and thus drop your weight. Don't expect immediate results. You need to burn 3500 calories to drop one pound of body weight. Since walking burns in the neighborhood of 50 calories per hour, you can see how much leisurely walking you have to do to actually LOSE weight. Of course, decreasing your caloric intake is another excellent way to loose weight. Just don't count on walking alone to drop pounds off your body. Step it up a bit...extend yourself a little more...increase you activity beyond walking...you will see the results if you do.

WOW, I have no idea what pco disease is and if that's slowing down your weight loss. Is your friend eating the same foods as you?? Congrats on sticking to water and away from pop! That's the best drink for your body. Have you tried to eat small, frequent meals or perhaps start using some small weights when you walk? Walking in the morning will kick-start your metabolism for the day. Have you varied the pace of your walk? Terrain? Time of day? Sometimes adding a few hills or a different route can speed things up. I've walked the same route on and off for 3 years and I'm stuck in my weight too (5'5" 165). I recently added a Pilate's class and that at least gives me the illusion of being thinner than I really am, but doesn't take off the weight-yet. I have a bad case of 'hand to mouth 'disease in the evening watching T-V that's hindering my loss. Good luck! I hope you're able to shed those pounds and have your baby!

You need to intensify your work out. Do short bursts of running while walking (30 seconds run, 60 seconds walk, repeat). You should also be doing some strength training at least 3 days a week. I hope you aren't only drinking water. You still need to eat 5-6 small meals a day for a total of 1500-1800 calories.

For me, I've determined that I don't lose weight by exercising, I lose weight by eating less. Walking helps, of course (as does any physical activity), and it has many benefits in addition to losing weight, so it's worth doing. But for me, anyway, it's getting up from the table that makes my pants looser.

Now, with PCO disease, you've got a VERY different set of circumstances than I do. In particular, one of the symptoms of PCO is an unexplained weight gain and difficulty in losing weight (because the hormonal changes mess with your body's metabolism). So that may be what's going on for you. I'm not sure what kind of treatment is available, whether there are hormone suppressants that your doctor could give you to help your metabolism normalize long enough to jump-start your weight loss. But because you have what I presume is a diagnosis of PCO, you should start with your doctor.

i need to understand what pco disease is.
walking has worked for me combined with the right diet.
drinking water is good, but you didn't mention anything else.
the right diet includes things that you like within reason.
no matter what you are told ,the only thing that works long term is diet and exercise.
you could probably walk faster and use upper body:swing your arms with some tension in the arms.
i hope this helps you as it helped me to lose 40 pounds and keep it off.

Everyone's body type and metabolism is different, you can't compare yourself to your friend. Also, she may have a very different diet, too. Walking is still good exercise, you should do the 10,000 steps plan to be healthy.

Have you changed your diet? Maybe you are still consuming more calories than you are burning? Or the opposite - you aren't eating enough and your body is in starvation mode.
