No, you do not need to send a thank you if you were a guest at a wedding. You technically have up to one year from the event to send a wedding gift. However, I would suggest sending one ASAP. It's a bit odd to get a wedding gift one year after the wedding, especially if you attended the wedding (you can't claim that you just found out about the wedding!)
If you have not attended the wedding yet, bring the gift with you or mail it prior to the wedding.

You would never send a thank you for attending a wedding and no one sends a thank you to someone else for attending. However, a thank you is in order for sending a gift. Etiquette dictates you have up to one year after a wedding to send a gift. Since marriages are failing more quickly now, it is better to send it sooner than later. Prior to the wedding is best.

You receive a thank you card from the bride and groom on weddings that you attend. You should either mail their gift before the wedding, or bring it to the wedding at the reception. If, however, you really enjoyed the wedding, you can always send them a little note and tell them what a great time you had. The bridal couple would love that!!

You should send a gift (if you choose to send one) either just before or shortly after attending the wedding.
You do NOT take a gift with you to the wedding or reception-- you ship it to their home or take it there yourself-- again, either a few weeks before or shortly after attending the wedding.
As a guest, you do not send a "thank you card" per se, but if you are communicating with the couple anyways, you can just comment on how lovely it was to be there for their wedding day.

You should take a gift with you to the wedding reception. You don't send a thank you card for the wedding you attended - but could send a note saying you enjoyed yourself!

You can if you want to! I'm sure that they would really appreciate it. But no it is not necessary or tradition to do that. You typcially take the gift to the wedding when you go.
