The vast majority of practitioners of the magickal arts would tell you to stay away from necromancy. Even Alester Crowley, not a nice man by any standard I can understand, avoided necromancers as if they were diseased. Even for those who know what they're doing interaction with the dead is risky, for an untrained person it is a disaster waiting to happen. As a Druid who has had to clean up other people's messes more than once, I cannot urge you strongly enough to rethink your course of action. If your really want to study thaumaturgy (non religious based magick) I would recommend the book "Real Magic" by Isaac Bonewitts. If you are in interested in witchcraft (a Goddess based religious system of magick) I'd recommend "a Witches Bible Compleat" by Janet and Stewart Farrar. Both should be readily available in any good new-age or occult book store.

One more thing, a lot of people will tell you that magick, science, and religion are all superstitious nonsense, that they alone know the truth, and anyone who disagrees with them is a fool. Ignore the fanatics and seek your own answers. You have eyes to see, ears to listen, and a tongue to ask questions. You also have a brain, that's got to be there for something.
