Ha, half the time we get movies in AAFES theaters as little as a week before its release on DVD. Sometimes, we're even special and it hits the theaters AFTER it hits the shelves. The only things we've gotten on time in accordance with the general theater release date is when Star Wars and Lord of the Rings came out. To be fair, it's about $3/ticket though.

The answer's a negative. AAFES theaters are often one cycle behind. Whatever perks Navy or Air Force personnel get while deployed are for them alone, but I know I've never caught a movie before any civilian out there (and I goto the cinema at least twice a week).

Yes. Most studios will send a pre-release copy to the MWR to show at deployed locations. I watched 5 or 6 movies months before it was in the theaters state side. Most of then have a message from the cast and crew before the movie starts.

AAFES is behind, but at least the ticket prices are more reasonable. If you are overseas you may be able to catch a local economy theater that caters to Americans. Back when I was stationed in Landstuhl, 93-97, the movie theater in Landstuhl had all of the blockbusters right on time. It was very nice, it had a piano bar, you could drink beer and their gourmet coffee was very good.

It did cost more than twice as much as AAFES, but to offset that we never had to stand in line, and we could stop by and buy tickets whenever we wanted.

No, my dad is a marine and we see movies the same time as other people do but on the marine base they do have a movie theatre that you can watch free movies. You just have to be 18 or older to watch the pg-13 and above movies.

When I was underway for 3 months(Coast Guard) we got Tomb Raider two weeks before it came out in the theater. The Navy buys and sends out movies for distribution while you are underway, I know our Chief Cook was in charge of putting in orders (I don't Know how much it cost though). It was nice as sometimes life gets pretty boring floating around the ocean.

Occassionally..when I was at Lejeune, there were two times that movies were screened before the release date. It's rare, but it happens.

No, not unless they happen to know someone in the business and they get them in. They see movies slightly after the public does in the states and months after the public sees them if they are overseas.

No, AAFES usually has theaters set up on certain bases that show the new movies.
