Morals have nothing to do with religion. Morals are common sense. It just amazes me how some people think.
Should I ask, if you don't go to church how can you be religious? What does church have to do with religion?

honestly I think it is because they cannot concieve of having their own morals because that would involve true self thought and self examination. These people prefer to have everything spoon fed to them. Also many have spent their entire lives being constantly told how bad they are(see baptist church) so they believe that they cannot be good or good enough without their religion to reach their heaven or paradise. The bible does say that so if they choose to believe that then they feel they are justified in that approach. I have been on both sides of the fence and thankfully have the ability to think for myself but many of these people would be too frightened to say that sort of thing even if it occured to them. Blame the churches for this but it has been passed on through so many generations that the people doing it actually do believe they are doing the right thing.

Sweetheart, it is not what you think.
Morals, philosophically come from first principles and must be justified.
Ethics, are prescriptions on how to live, or descriptions on how people live.
Both are common sense, yet different. Morals are internalized (do not steal even if you can get away with it). Ethics are externalized (If you steal and get caught, then you can go to jail, but, if you can get away with it, who cares).
Here is the real question. If you are a random quirk of nature, and in the grand scheme of nature, it matters not if you live or die, then morals are stupid. The issue is to live, live, live. The ethics are, well, they can vary.
Sorry, I do not agree with you. Why? Look at godless societies and the brutality they created.

Well, morals were written in the Bible way before you nonbelievers knew... The Bible is the design and instructions to life and for it being so old and still accurate, I think thats says it all. Church is for people who do not understand the Bible and seek more guide. Church is also for social gathers to spread love and teach the word. Morals have everything to do with it...there is good and there is evil, does that help? They did find the ark and other things back up the Bible. Look it up. The temple is being rebuilt....they found the peices, just as said in the Bible and they have been interpeted. They have also found writings of Paul.

Nothing.
As an atheist i appreciate the 'Christian' view of commandments only because i like going out the door and not finding my wallet and various body parts seperated from my person.
I need to survive so fit in, that what our great society is about, hence the reduction in church numbers...
How long will it last before the cycle starts all over again...?

It's funny about morals. There is an interesting proverb in the bible that says "The adulterous woman licks her lips and says, I have done nothing wrong". Morals without Godly principles are all relative to what the person "thinks" in his or her own mind what is right and wrong and they can change from person to person and day to day and from circumstance to circumstance. There is no real foundation for their belief.

...because Christians are brainwashed into believing that only the fear of eternal damnation can make humans behave in a decent manner. The concept of somebody behaving morally because they feel it is right is totally alien to them.
I live in a Catholic country for years now, and it is still the case that people think I must eat little children on a regular basis if I tell them that I don't subscribe to any religion.

I agree too many people on here confused the three or assume that they are interchangeable. Morals, religion and churches are all different things.

It's called your conscience... not common sense.
Common sense means you don't run out in front of a speeding train because you know you'll get killed. It has nothing to do with morals.
Morals is of your conscience and means you know the difference between right and wrong. Like murder is wrong or giving to the needy is right.
Where do we get our morals and conscience from? God of course...we are born with it. Some people have such buried conscience's that right and wrong becomes blurred and they are blind of the truth.

Because it is easy to assume. It is easy to believe what you want to, especially regarding those you see as "the enemy" or "the others". Maybe these assuming ppl cannot entertain the idea of doing what is right simply for the sake of doing what is right. Maybe they need the threat of eternal punishment to keep them in line....who knows? However, assumption is a mistake in any situation.
