Pentagon moves to increase U.S. troop levels in Iraq By Will Dunham

WASHINGTON - The U.S. military is delaying the departure of thousands of soldiers from Iraq while speeding the arrival of thousands more as a way to keep more troops on the ground to handle unrelenting violence, U.S. officials said on Monday.

The United States, in a bid to stem a rise in sectarian violence between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims that has heightened concern over civil war, has increased its troop count in the past two months to the current level of 142,000 and more to come.

A brigade of roughly 3,800 soldiers from the Army's 1st Armored Division, based in Germany, that was due to have left Iraq in January is being held in place for a little under two months, said defense officials who asked not to be named because the decision has not been formally announced.

These soldiers, serving in the volatile area of Iraq are needed. However, the crying has started. The troops wanted to go home.

Well, let's see. They are being asked to fight an illegal war. They don't know why we're there, because keeping other nations from civil war is not a threat to the US. Oh yes, let's not forget that the good ol USA has reneged on its contract with our troops by holding them in a 'backdoor draft'. I'd complain too.

I've seen way to many questions like this from you. Seriously, you haven't been to Iraq have you? Sure you may have been elsewhere but it's different in every situation. Iraq is hell, I spent more then my fair share of time there and for what so @ssholes like you can sit at home on your computer and complain because the troops want to go home? Sure we weren't forced to join the military but we did, we were then told we had to go to Iraq, supposedly "not for long". Everyday you wonder whether today you'll be coming home, maybe you will but in a wooden box. Everyday we put our lifes on the line, I think that at least deserves a bit of respect. These troops are crying because they've already spent months in that hell hole and they've just had their hopes of coming home to their family shattered...again! You need to f*ckin grow up and stop being suck a pathetic f*ckhead!

Bitching and moaning is part of the military lifestyle. You should have seen the early parts of the deployment to the Balkans, when the Army started bitching because they were living in tent cities and prefabs and the Air Force was sending their people to hotels. In my unit people complianed about going to the fire range or being forced to wear class "B"s just because we had a big wig from headquarters (we were a forward deployed unit from the states, so the local hierarchy at USAFE mostly left us alone).

They have spent between a year and 18 months in country. They received their orders to redeploy so they could go home and at the last minute were extended. You don't think you'd be a little upset about having to stay after all that.

How would you like to be away from your family and friends for a long period of time and think you are going home just to be told that it'll be longer... even 1 week is a long time to those men and women....THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO CRY AND *********. about it...

When are you joining Erudite? These military members have families just like you and I, and they would like to go home to see them. Some of the brave young men who are serving our country have newborn babies they haven't seen yet. Get a life loser!

As a proud military member, it's only natural for us to fill our units with whining and complaining, schemeing to go home, etc. However, I think it is irresponsible for any troop who lets someone that is not a part of the military know about it. No one outside the services should know some military men don't like their job.

Dumb question!!! How would you like to spend a couple of years in a place where you wouldn't go if you were sent to hell? When they get there they start counting down until the day they get to leave...then as that day approaches they are told "lucky you, you get to stay and help the Iraqis die some more". I will shoot my son if he even considers joining Bush's army.
