I am looking at going to South Africa for a week and then coming back to collect the kids and travel to Bulgaria. I remember someone telling me years ago that they had to stay in the UK for a minimum of 3 days before being able to travel abroad again. Is this still the case? I have looked online but cannot find anything to help me find the answer

If you are a British citizen, there is no minimum stay beteween travels - you can come and go as you please. There may be some travel restrictions if you in the UK on a visa - check with the Home Office.

There is no time limit on how long you have to stay between trips. More important - I note that you say "collect the kids" You should be aware that some countries, where children are travelling with one parent, require that you carry a letter from the other parent stating that they can travel with only one parent. This is not universal by any means, but a growing number of countries are asking for such a document.

Sounds like you have been spun a yarn to me, I have frequently returned from an overseas destination to the UK only to leave again a day or so later. In fact once, I arrived back in the UK from New York at 11:00 and left for france on a ferry that night!

You have nothing to worry about I can assure you.
