It really depends on the 'style' of Port you're talking about, as there are many different types.

Vintage Port should be consumed immediately after opening, and will decline in quality quickly. These are the best and most delicate ports bottled, and considered the creme de la creme of Port. Vintage Ports are declared on average, only three times per decade.

Late Bottle Vintage Port can last up to a month after opening.

Ruby Reserve Ports can typically last 1-3 months after opening, without much decline in flavor character.

Aged Tawny Ports (10yr, 20yr, 30yr and 40yr) have the greatest shelf life, as they have been oxidized during the barrel aging process.

Young Ruby and Tawny Ports can last anywhere from 2-4 weeks, on average.

My 10 year lasted about 6 months (how long I took to drink it) and it was as good the last day as it was the day I opened it.

Generally, ports and sherries (fortified wines) last longer due to the increased alcohol content...this was actually the purpose of fortifying the wines in the first place.
