issues such as drugs and sex. many parents don't want to deal with kids asking at young ages what those things are. do you know most kids will find out on their own?

You are correct. We all need open relationship with our children so that we can talk about any and everything!

I've always answered all of my sons questions from the time he could ask.
He is an honor student in school also.
I was always honest about my answers also, like what is good and bad about everything.
There are somethings that are hard to answer. Like he has always asked why females are always mean and hateful, hard to answer because I'll never know either.
This probably started with seeing his mom being that way with me.

My kids are only 6 & 7 and I talk to them about not smoking and drinking all the time. When my kids get older, I will talk to them about the sex. Don't want them finding out from Hollywood, or their friend's in school.

i was raised by a "single mom." we are still very close to this day, in my young adulthood. when i was very young, she laid everything out in the open...about sex, drugs, etc...

since she is pretty liberal about a lot of issues, she just explained everything in a way that wouldn't make me feel weird about asking her questions in the future...by opening up, she opened me up...when i did find out about sex drugs and rock and roll in college, she was right there to give me good sound advice, and always reminded me that there are consequences to everything i do, be it "good" or "bad."

I don't avoid the issues at all. I you leave it up to the public schools to teach your children everything they need to know about sex and drugs, then you may as well set aside bail money.

My wife and I never avoided issues with our children, we faced them head on and tackled them as they came with the truth.
