I would get more information from the court. This really is different in different states. These may indeed be two seperate courses or you may have a choice of courses to meet your obligation. Your best bet is to go ask someone at your county courthouse or city police department, they will have the answer for you.

It's definitely not a defensive driving course!

The court wanted you to start learning not to speed and drive safely; such that you will not endanger to other road users.

nope ( your state may use different terminology ) a true defensive driving course will teach you how to handle a car and actual driving maneuvers ( private courses take place on a racetrack ) you are going to a time wasting series of study guides and films
