Can I file for lost title if i dont have the last title and it's not my truck with out the title correct or does the bill of sale showing the owner has sold it to me make it ok to file for the lost title claim?

Go to the Secretary of State, DMV, or whatever office in your state registers vehicles. Explain what happened, and ask if you can get the name, address, and phone # of the owner.

Also, try looking up his name in the phone book, or else at switchboard.com.

Have your lawyer contact the seller, and the previous owner.

Talk to whatever police department has jurisdiction over the place where you bought the truck. If the seller didn't have power of attorney from the seller, he committed a crime.

for one you sholdn't have payed for the truck without getting the title. Sounds like some kind of shady deal to me. If you have the owners name you should be able to find him in the white pages. Netscape has a good white pages which you can look people up.

Legally you can not apply for a lost title without the person who owns the vehicle. You need to contact that person.

It sounds a little fishy to me. In calif a person can never sign someone elses name on any document. I would send a registered letter to the last known owner of the vehicle and tell him exactly what happened and make sure you did not buy a stolen vehicle and then work out something with the previous owner of the vehicle to register it.

The previous owner must file for a lost title. If you know how to contact this person I recommend doing so and telling him you need this done ASAP.

look at this web site i have never used it but some one told me that they did what they said http://www.its-titles.com/

did you check with the state to make sure it was not stolen?

another option would be if you have a friend in KY, AR, Temm, or Greorga i beleive that these state do not use titles and your state will accept a bill of sale from one of these states, it may have to be noterized or on a state form

good luck

Sounds like you got SCREWED! My gram got into a situation like this... the guy sold it to her, she paid CASH! and he took it and ran. He said time and time again that he'd mail her the title... she found out that the car wasnt' really in his name... (somehow he fixed it so it was/looked like it) ... and the lady who owns the car had gotten a loan for this guy being nice (shes an older woman) and he took advantage of her took that MONEY ToO... and now both my gram and this woman are after him and taking him to court for it all... but they found out he's in jail now for pulling yet another stunt... GOOD LUCK... definately try like the operator? and see if she kinda find a number to the guy who owns it ... the papers u found that have his name one them must have an address? if so maybe write a letter to that address and ask for him to call you? ... umm... i duno

You should look up the truck VIN at your state bureau of motor vehicles. I would guess that there is not a clear title to that truck.
