I'm 17 (female) and looking to redecorate my room.
I want the room to be girly but not overly-girly since this will probably be my last time redecorating before I go off to college and I want it to be mature.

Any color scheme ideas (including rug) or just any ideas about furniture in general too. Again, nothing to girly. Thank you.

The color of the paint really sets the mood of the room. To keep it from being to childish pick the more relaxed colors. In other words you can paint it a nice lavender, or pale blue, colors that seem to freshen and not blind. A bright yellow or bright pink or something of that sort sends the younger image. Also, something to add to the room, is to do 3 walls in say a lavender and then have a focal wall that is a different color, say a very pale yellow, kind of cream color which you would also use as your border color. Then get a rug that incorporates both colors etc. When you do that you can also bring a cool accent to the room by outlining windows (the sill etc) in the opposite color of that wall. To keep it more mature, pick solid curtains say the cream color but use a lavender valance on top with lavender tie-backs! Or do a stencil border around the very top or middle, something sophisticated not childish -but don't continue the border on the focal wall, just the other three using the cream color. You can email if you want more ideas, I love interior decorating.

How about this for a color scheme, I saw it in Seventeen or something, can't remember, but it looked great. The walls were done in a lavender and the trim was done in black. The black toned it down and didn't give it that girly girly look.

I think lavender is calming, sophisticated. A big white shag area rug. Pink or yellow or green for accents.
