I'd like the convenience of a minivan, but without the high cost and poor mileage. What's a good alternative? I don't need lots of seating, but storage space is nice.
p.s. My cost and mileage preferences also rule out most SUVs.

Check out the Mazda 5
You get the space of a van, seats 6 in 3 rows, back seats that fold down for tons of storage, and good gas milage (24-28MPG). Starts around $17,000.

a honda accord is super i think of. I unquestionably have 3 sturdy length boys and their acquaintances with us and likewise my nephew. I ave had a minivan yet i found that majority of the time, it become too lots area for the gasoline and coverage i become putting in direction of it. so I offered it and have been given a ford concentration and we purely come residing house from a 4 hour holiday to the Smokey's and the lads in no way as quickly as complained the whole way interior the backseat of the small vehicle. however the trunk is vast and it took a tank and a 0.5 (40$) for the holiday which isn't what i might are transforming into with the minivan or suv. my boys are 13, 10 and eight purely so which you be attentive to. while they have been little I had a jeep wrangler and a couple of infants in vehicle seats and groceries and nonetheless controlled. so do what you think of is great in this difficult financial equipment.

A Saturn Vue or a Ford Escape or a Jeep Liberty or a Chevy (darn what's that thing called) or a Mazda Millenia (I think) It is hard to keep track there are so many little SUV like things around but you get the idea right?
These are not full sized SUV's are geared towards the economical family. Saturn is the best deal for the money and you can usually find them used for a reasonable price. They really are great cars with inexpensive fixes.

I have a Ford Freestyle amd I get anywhere from 18 to 24 mpg. It has seats that fold nicely. Seats 7 depending on style you buy.

Subaru. Outback, Baja, Forester, whichever. You will have ample storage space, AWD, and not sacrifice fuel economy for your mileage (regularly around 30mpg.)
My dad has driven many Subarus - his latest a Forester - and he has had each of them over 200,000 miles.
Also, he was in a roll-over accident last year (hit an 11-point buck) - car was in BAD shape and he walked away only marginally sore.

Get a truck? Trucks are good. They keep their value even when they are off the seller's lot.
Double cab for extra seating, trucks are excellant on storage space. :) My suggestion would be a dodge truck. Rather dodge ram or dokota. Both are good trucks.

Look at the import station wagons, ie. small SUV's, that have removeable seats in the rear.
