I have a reasonably healthy diet and walk a lot, but I'm still getting a bit of a paunch. Any ideas?

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

Lie on your back with your feet flat on the floor (knees bunched) and your hands extended straight out before you. Straighten your legs and raise them as high as possible in that straightened position, at the same time allowing your head to rise slightly. Gently move your hands up and down for say 100 movements. You'll feel the effect on your stomach muscles and after doing this exercise for a few weeks you'll actually see it! As a bonus, it firms the chin too! Tried and tested!

Cardio work is the key. Your abs are there...they are just covered by layers of fat as is the case for most people. Sit ups will help, but only cardio will really let them show through.

I know people that do 200 crunches and still have a pooch.

3 times per week @ 30 minutes per day.

Good old sit ups are good. Start off at about 10 and build up. I like it because it's quick to do and I haven't got time to think of any good excuses not to. LOL

Cardio, cardio, cardio. Working on one specific area of the body doesn't provide immediate results like we'd think. If you focus on an entire tone then you will get better results. I promise.
