immigration when it commenced in the early days was beneficial to this country but with the mass influx of all nationalities here now and the drain on our social system its a heavy burden for the British people to bear and if you work hard you pay back a big chunck of your wages to keep the pot full so as the scroungers can just sit back and think this is a bit of alright Its time to shut the door tight and sort out some who are already here illegally so then Rocky we would be doing something about it.

Well I don't agree, because I know better.

Immigration has always been a fact of life, and unless you are prepared to accept that we must live in a controlled society with severe limitations to freedom, then no-one has the right to impose that on others.

In other words, no-one would be allowed to leave the UK to set up a business, start a job abroad or retire to Spain.

It works both ways, see?

People who think that little England can go it alone and leave the EU, are just fools, because most of our trade is with the EU, we have extensive invenstments in Europe and many companies are pan-European. Consequently, we shed jobs if we leave the EU.

To date, no-one has yet come up with a reliable figure for immigration, but there are various guesstimates. Even limiting ourselves to Eastern Europeans, we seem to know the number who have arrived in the UK, but no has seen fit to count those that go back again; like the summer students who pick crops, earn a bit of cash, and then go back home to study. I personally knew about 30 who did just that last year.

As for the emerging and rapidly developing EU countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and elsewhere, the EU makes it possible for British companies and individuals to invest in their economies, and for them to invest in ours.

It may well be, that in the short-term, there may be pressures to bear, but in the medium to long-term, we have everything to benefit. As things now stand, quite a lot of Polish workers (as an example) are bridging the skills-gap, and benefitting our home economy substantially. Those that remain in the UK (and there will be many) will do a great deal to redress the imbalance between young and old, and make pension provision that much less difficult. Also, more people means an automatic expansion in economic activity and economic growth.

So before you agree to kick everyone out, perhaps you should learn the facts and stop using immigrants as a scapegoat for your own inadequacy and failure.

The Poles are, incidentally, very nice people, unlike many British people who call themselves that when they go to football matches for a punch-up or binge-drink in Spain.

It's a pity many of the Brits don't go abroad and stay there, IMHO.

As you can tell, I am not a liberal!!

I am not sure that I know what exactly we are all agreeing about. It is time to stop the illegals but the fact is now that Eastern Europe is joining the EU we will be flooded - there will be about 1/2 million Romanians when they join, there was a similar amount of Polish and other nationalities. The best thing we can do is to leave the EU to the mainland and become independant - look how well Switzerland and Norway is doing in relation to the rest of us! I say join them, leave the EU and impose visa regualtions on those countries that flood the country and those who let illegals get a passport of their nation (Spanish giving ppts to west africans who make it to Canary Islands, for example. Similarly Italy with Albanians and other north africans)

Unless we do like illegal immigrants and break the law nothing. Only the government can do something and they talk the talk but fall down when they need to walk the walk.

Sorry to tell you, but I don't agree with most of the racist crap that people on Yahoo Answers write about immigration.

Britain must repay the countries that they Colonised and reigned during the British Empire. This is why they must allowed immigration as a matter of gratitude.

Because our government sucks. Tony Blair has no control of our borders and even the failed assylum seekers get to stay in the country for upto a year.

Will everybody seems to agree - does anybody actually know.

All we get is the media interpretation of the issue - rather than the actual facts. And remember; bad news sells - so we can hardly expect an unbiased view from them can we.

So, I don't think they are a huge problem. Needs to be kept an eye on - but it's not as bad as the media makes out.
