I heard this phrase said by a character in in one of my anime series's called Prince of Tennis and was curious about it.

It depends on the situation, sometimes it could mean (I am thinking of Prince of tennis terms
"You still need to practise more before you can play me!" or
"You better go back to the blackboard before you can be at the same level as I!"

Do these sentences make sense?

probably means "wait a minute"
