What is the difference between a Doula & a Midwife? They do pretty much the same stuff right?

Nope. Not the same.

A professional midwife actually provides prenatal care and delivers the baby in a hospital or birth center.

A doula is like a professional coach. Goes in to help with the delivery, coach with breathing, that sort of thing. Help keep the mom focused and get her anything she needs. A doula cannot deliver a baby.

A lay midwife is an unlicensed person who attends home births, and is similar to a midwife. Amish, as an example, often use lay midwives.

I would also like to add that a doula is also there for the partner to make sure they are comfortable, taking part where they want to. A doula is never meant to replace a partner, any more than a wedding planner would replace a groom. Doulas are also useful if you would want an older sibling to attend. They could take care of the child's needs, making sure they are not scared or they know what is going on. If they need to leave the room the doula can go with them, that way the parents don't have to worry about them as well.

Doulas are to help with relaxation and focus during labor. Midwives are a substitute for a OBGYN. Doulas do not have as much medical training as Midwives and do not deliver the baby. A Midwife does all your prenatal care and the delivery.

I had my first toddler at a well-being facility, and that i will on no account set foot in a well-being facility maternity ward back, barring a life-threatening emergency. i'm pregnany back, and making plans a house start with a CPM (qualified expert midwife). We had initially needed to apply a start center, whether it grew to become into too high priced and that i actual needed a house start. the middle grew to become into purely a compromise with my husband. examine each and every thing you could approximately organic childbirth. ensure you recognize the physique shape of start and be responsive to what to anticipate. detect a midwife you have confidence, instruct your self, and be arranged to pass if necessary, yet do no longer plan on it. information coach that abode start in a low-danger being pregnant is as risk-free as a well-being facility for a widely used time mom, and a minimum of as risk-free if no longer safer for a mom who has had a toddler formerly. sturdy success and congratulations on your being pregnant! ETA: Midwives DO have a fetal visual demonstrate unit, i don't be responsive to why lots of folk think of they do no longer. they do no longer use consistent fetal monitoring, on account that's shown to boost the c-section fee and actual motives extra issues than it prevents. It grew to become into on no account meant for use universally how that's in hospitals at present; it grew to become into meant for extreme-danger labors purely. Intermittent fetal monitoring is extra effectual, and facilitates mom to pass around, so it would not decelerate labor. Midwives additionally carry Pitocin to evade maternal hemorrhage, and can manage any problem that comes up, even whether that's stabilizing mom and toddler for an ambulance holiday to the well-being facility. regularly, a house start mama may well be interior the OR getting a stat c-section speedier than a woman interior the well-being facility, by way of fact the midwife calls the well-being facility on an identical time as she is waiting on the ambulance so as that they are in a position to prep the OR. in case you will get to the well-being facility in under 20 minutes, you're probable to be in surgical treatment speedier than a mom who worked interior the well-being facility.
