I am on disability. It has been about 5 years since I last held a job. I have been seriously thinking about going back to work. What scares me the most and what I think the reason I got fired so offten was my lack of organizational skills. The inability to learn them and a problem of being able to priortize them. I was wondering if this could be a problem that might be a common one among people with bipolar disorder.

You can be trained to have skills. If you have problems focusing then you might need something for ADHD or ADD. My foster son has to take meds for ADHD and bi polar. I admire you for wanting to get back on the work force, but do'nt let it get to you if you decide to go for it. Do not give up and I hope you have a great therapist that can help you in this area, learn your strong suits and short comings and get help on how to achieve your goals. God bless you.

I really don't think you can always attribute those qualities to an illness --- maybe it is just a product of your past environment

I am bipolar and raised by two work-a-holic parents, therefore I have the same work ethic -- so I don't think blaming the illness is not correct

I think my boss is bipolar. I know it runs in his family. And yes, he has alot of trouble getting organized.Everyday he says" Good grief, I need to get organized" It's become a joke around the office. His desk is in an awful mess.I try to help him , but he won't throw anything away.So I just let him be and try to help him find stuff when he needs it.Good luck in your job search.

my mom was bipolar. ummmm, i'm not sure that's totally associated with bi-polar disorder. maybe just a personality type thing. hey, you should read personality plus by florence littauer. i'm really plugging this book lately. it's interesting.
