Ok, I'm kind of new to the world of camcorders since the last one I bought was just a standard vhs tape kind so it's been a while. I need some opinions and info on the best camcorder to get my hubby for christmas. Do you recommend the hi8 tape, mini dvd, or regular dvd type? Any additional info on the different types would be great. Also, where did you purchase--I'm thinking overstock.com but not sure. Just please, someone educate me on this!

The above is good, but then you have to record it onto some other media anyway.

Either a (full size) DVD or VHC-C.

VHS-C will work in an adapter you can put in your VCR. No other size can.

If he's only goint to use it for home movies, I'd say any decent Hi-8 digital camcorder would be fine. Sony makes some good ones.
Mini-DV is good for semi-professional and even pro applications. My favorites are the Canon brand. Excellent lenses and features.

since your a newbie (and no offense by that, we all were at some time), get a dvd cam. they will save you time, and quality is pretty good, if you dont edit and recompress. there is only one kind of dvd camera, which are the small dvds, but they will work in your dvd player. sony and panasonic's consumer lines are pretty good. hope this helps! www.camcorderinfo.com for more info.

regular with out a doubt. when you play the dvd on a regular size you don't have as much problem with the dvd or cd causing problems.
