Use one that is "deep-cleansing" or "clarifying", followed by a light conditioner. Apply a hot-oil treatment once a week or so. Your hair is too heavy or, well, healthy for the shine or body- improving types. Most of them are loaded with copolymers that bond to your hair and give it that plastic feel.

I was told by a stylist that most of the shampoos for sale in stores are not good for our hair. He said to use professional salon shampoos because they have the right amount of products in them to make them work. He told me only 3% of the product is in those cheap store bought shampoos. Unfortunately, I don't want to spend $15-20 on shampoo, and then another 15 on conditioner - so I keep on buying them. :)

Take a day off from shampoo -- too much product usage can cause hair damage. Try a separate shampoo and conditioner. Conditioner makes a HUGE difference.

i like Redken so soft. It left my hair really soft and smooth. You can try a small bottle of the shampoo and conditioner before buying the big bottle.

Have you tried an organic shampoo? I switched to one about a year ago, and have really been pleased with the results. There are many different blends available (mine contains persimmon, rose geranium, aloe vera and numerous other ingredients) - pick one that appeals to you and see if it helps.

redken so soft is GREAT. do NOT use clarifying shampoos as they strip the hair and will dry it out and make it more course.
