We want to dipsute a police traffic ticket, and have been advised to write to the address on the back of the ticket but am unsure where or how to start the letter exactly! Any offers/ help/advice would be grateful appreciated. Thanks

We were on our motorcycle - had to go round/overtake a car which came out onto the road and in doing so crossed over some zig zag lines - the police then pulled us over and issued a ticket for going over these lines! We think he simple misconstrued our actionso we want to argue our case there are of course other facts with this like the failure to identify himself, but we think we have a reasonable case to put forward to see if it help them make their decision not to pursue this course of action - I really believe with all the facts that we will win......

Had to go round the vehicles to avoid collision (NOT just overtaking willy nilly)

Your best bet would be to talk to Citizens advice. They will lead you through it. Otherwise talk to a Solicitor. If you attempt to defend yourself they will walk all over you and your fine with court costs will be far in excess of the original fine. The fact you ask this question leads me to think you havn't got a snowballs chance in hell with this one if you defend yourself.

Sorry to say this but it's for your own good.

As for the PC's ID it will be on the ticket he handed you.

Graham.

Ps. I don't know what little_friend was answering but it couldn't have been this question.

I'm afraid the only way of disputing a fixed penalty ticket is to argue about it in court. The address on the back of the ticket is normally only the address to send payment to if you indend to pay the fine. You say you were going round / overtaking - which was it? If you were going round an obstruction or a car that pulled out into your path, then you should argue it in court. If you were overtaking someone, then you should pay the fine as it's an offence to do this on zig-zags. If you still think you have a case, get yourself a solicitor. Hope this helps.

Take the fine. Surely it is only a fixed penalty £30 thing? If you go to court it will cost loads more, and if you lose you'll probably have to pay the polices expenses as well as your own. The court will probably side with the police, so I wouldn't waste your time and money on it. You'll just have to accept that the police view motorists as an easy target and a money-making machine. I'm surprised they didn't try and stick something else on you at the same time - I bet they put your registration through the national police database to check the tax and insurance. Swear and moan at them as much as you like, but I doubt you'll get anywhere with this. The UK justice system sucks, doesn't it?

Were you late? Did you buy a ticket? Not parked in designated bay? Exceeded allowed time? Parked in a disabled bay? Elaborate a little that will help.

Zig zag lines are often a lost case. Why? Because they are predominantly in front of a pedestrian crossings, therefore if there is a car in front of you, you don't have a clear view. I have a zig zag lines bang in front of my house and gosh, if I were to count the fines and points... Sorry can't help much...

I would not bother,

It you pay the fine £30 and three points.
if you don't and fight it. Larger fine , more points plus court costs.
Police rarely lose a case as most of the cars have a camera on the dashboard. Even if he was in an unmarked car. Which I assume he was.
You say he did not Identify himself , Most police officers don't id them selves. Their details are on the tickets.
pay the fine and get on with your life, not worth fighting it. they have you bang to rights.

pay the fine or suffer in court sunshine....the zig zags are not to be crossed or for over taking...as the other geezer says its because of a possible traffic hazzard ie crossing...you shoulsd be aware there is another offence they will ply you with if you contest it...under or overtaking near to a crossing.

My advise is pay the ticket if you deserved it. and if not be respectful and factual when penning a res ponce.
