DOMS - Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, which you experience after a very heavy training day?

I don't think there is any way to completely avoid this, other than:

1) Don't go so heavy (which sort of defeats the purpose of lifting heavy).

2) Gain more fitness -- your body will eventually get used to what you are putting it through.

3) Take aleve / advil to mask the pain. Not exactly the greatest long-term solution, but it can help.

4) Hot tubs or even ice baths can also help alleviate DOMS.

5) Stretching has been said to help.

6) Water, but in my opinion extra hydration only goes so far for relieving the sorenss.

7) I read in Muscle and Fitness (I believe) that Vitamin C is supposed to be good as well.

You may want to post your question to http://www.bodybuilding.com and their forums. They have a lot of experts who might give you an extra tip that I don't know about. But I think DOMS sort of comes with the territory after a hard workout. Consider it a badge of honor that you really kicked some butt.

Good luck.
