Nationalism is the uber-extreme of patriotism.

Patriotism is reciting the Pledge of Allegiance everyday.

Nationalism is forcing everyone to recite the Pledge of Allegiance everyday.

Patriotism is flying the flag from your home everyday.

Nationalism is accusing your neighbors who don't fly a flag of being traitors and communists.

Patriotism is loving your country and wanting the best for it.

Nationalism is believing that the only way to love your country is to never admit that the people who run it are doing anything even remotely wrong.

Hope this helps.

nationalism if when someone in another country is patriotic for their country....patriotism is when you are nationalistic about your own country.

When you talk about a foriegn patriot (say a chinese patriot who loves china) we talk about that as nationalism.

When we talk domestically about a patriot (a New Yorker who loves the USA) we talk about that as patriotism.

Thats the only difference.
