I was taken to theatre last Monday night with suspected appendicitis. It turned out I had a ruptured ovarian cyst, but they removed my appendix anyway, to prevent any future problems. I had a lot of problems with severe pain in the first few days post-op, and I'm still really quite sore a week later. I also still feel quite sick and I'm not really able to eat anything at all.

How long should I expect it to take before I'm back to "normal"? I've been given 2 weeks off work, but how long should I expect to be in pain for? And how long did it take anyone else before they felt generally well again?

Hi - I had exactly the same thing, and was sick as a dog for at least a week. The pain was excrutiating at first (didn't you dread your first erm, loo trip!!!?) but it got much better. I think I took 2 weeks off. You'll get better AND you'll have lost lots of weight....every cloud....

It's been a long time since I had my appendectomy but I remember taking several weeks to heal. I had multiple complications because I was in my senior year in college and tried to do too much too quickly.

Take off the full two weeks. You may even need a little more time depending on how quickly your body heals.
