It's technically a cookie, but when cookies came out, they were called crackers. Nabisco even stands for North American Biscuit Company. but they make what are technically called cookies.

Whatever we eat has to have so much sugar in it to qualify to be a cookie. Therefore, like graham crackers, it is a cracker.

I think a few generations ago cookies were called crackers - someone help me out here - and I suppose when the first person made a cookie in the shape of an animal they named it aptly.
Now that I think about it, the name sounds sort of English. Say it with me it your best British accent, "An-mul craka."
