I have seen many questions and "commentaries" about the illegal immigrant issue. Even asked a couple myself. And many people have made the comment they know "illegal" or "undocumented" immigrants (live next door to, date, etc). Is it not the duty of a legal citizen of the United States to report this violation of law?

It is,I have and I shall continue to report any and all illegals.I own a ranch 30 miles outside of Scottsdale and the ICE will respond and be at my place within 30 minutes.so they will come if you call them.

jisther ...you are very mistaken, the illegal is a threat to all America.they first of all are illegal, and because of that are not medically checked by the government like the legal immigrants are. There has been a resurgence in contagious diseases that we had all but eradicated in the US.Directly attributed to the illegals from 3rd world country's.There have been 7000 cases of leprosy, thousands of a new antibiotic resistant strain of TB .TB is an air born lung ailment that can be caught by someone that is infected with it,coughing near you .Theses cases have been traced back to the contagion
by the treatment of the sick ,and the illegal him/her self.
yes illegals do pose a very direct harm to our country.
You need to read more and become informed before making a statement.

I think it is a personal choice. Whether we have a responsibility is not just one aspect. This can be legal, moral, ethical, social. Many factors play a role in this choice. Even if society as a whole decides that people report one another, nothing can be done to enforce this. This idea does not just apply for illegal immigrants. I am going to get on my soap box for a while, so please forgive me ahead on time. illegal Actions , whatever they may be, if seen can be seen as a action and potential cation. An action would be seeing a crime being committed. This is of course a duh pardon the pun. The second is more sticky. Seeing someone that is an illegal is different than seeing someone that is a fugitive. Granted they both broke the law. But every situation is different and everyone is different. Let this simmer for a while and slowly digest.

You can, but in most cities, they won't listen. In progressive cities, they can be reported if you have proof that they're illegal. (Just being hispanic is not proof)

But it's your duty, and your employers duty, not to hire them.

I feel sorry (for lack of a better word) for the people who refuse to act because they aren't personally being harmed by illegal immigration. The mark of a very poor citizen. Just because they do not feel harmed, someone else surely is (most likely the nearby legal immigrant). Hopefully, if they see someone being robbed, they'd still call the cops despite the fact that they aren't being harmed by that either.

This could be answered 2 different ways. What if you had family that lived in very poor conditions and their goverment sucked so that they could not better themself or their family would you not want to help them? Then again they should try to be legal but its very hard and cost them alot before they come over here.

The police stop them for DUI, traffic citations and other minor stuff all the time and do nothing, what is a civilian gonna do??
ICE is so under staffed and overworked they cannot handle the calls. I leave in a big big city and calling ICE means nothing.

No, I worry more about my own life than reporting people unless they pose a harm to myself or the general public. Illegal immigrants don't pose any harm.

I would not report them unless they were threatening the well being of us, the American Citizens. Most undocumented people just come over here to make money to take back to their families back in Latin America. They also pay taxes and not all of them live off medicare.

Almost any other crime would be reported, why should this one be any different? They are here ILLEGALLY, whether they are hard workers or not. I would report them in a heartbeat (whether ICE would come and pick them up is a whole different issue!)

Im a liberal so ah no I would not report this violation.
As long as they pose no harm to me I do not care that they are here. Most illegals are extremely hard workers and very nice people.
