This topic is from: 2 Samuel 11-12.
People seem to be taking from this what they want. While I, naturally, do not know the answer to this - let's consider a different way of thinking about this.
What is the purpose of abortion - often to avoid responsibility (with some tragic exceptions, of course). So, some people kill a fetus just because they don't want it. This motivation is justifiably in question.
What was the possible motivation of God? To convey the gravity of the situation to David - to shake him to a level that he repents and thus his soul is saved.
So, how did the child die? He became ill. With what? Was he in pain? Did God protect him from pain? Did God take him to heaven? What would have been this child's future - good or bad? We don't know anything of this. We only see that God caused a baby to die and we automatically assume everything horrendous and that we know all the variables and therefore pass our own shortsighted judgment. Perhaps God both took a drastic measure to save the soul of David AND removed the child from the Earth so that he didn't suffer a cruel life. The fact is, we just don't know and shouldn't be so quick to decide on something that we little information on.

Thanks you for the last sentence of the question. Nice to hear someone who is pro-abortion admit that a fetus is a baby. The child was a week old when it died. So if it was a "fetus" then you admit that all fetus are babies.
The death of the child was the consequence of the murder and adultry that David committed. Performed by God, the Giver of Life - thus the only one with the right to determine the length of a life. It life is given with a purpose. The child fulfilled its purpose and is enjoying eternity in the blessing of heaven.
When man becomes able to create life out of nothing like God did, then he has the right to terminate that life. Until then, he does not.
Simple question.

This child was NOT aborted, it had already been born.
2 Samuel 12:15b reads, "And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became ill."
Remember, David had committed murder and adultry in order to steal Bathsheeba from her husband, Uriah; although God forgave David (verse 13b), Nathan the prophet explained David's actions "have given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme" His Holy Name. Therefore, a punishment was required. None of us is qualified to judge God for the punishment given to David.
Peace.
"BetaFishy," this was not Solomon, since this child died. You can read about it at 2 Samuel 12:15-23.

God did not kill an unborn child but their first born. The Bible refers to the child in the womb many times as a person, never as a non-entity.
What I find more interesting about all this is that David asked God for forgiveness but never Bathsheba for rape nor killing her husband.

Davids live was filled with suffering as a consequence of his sin. This death was the death of a child, not a fetus.
I see this as the opposite from abortion. After all, abortion is the convenient killing of an UNWANTED inocent child to make the mothers live free from care or responsibility. The death of this WANTED child was a loss to the mother and father.

I dont believe you interpeted that correctly. The baby was born when it died. She wasnt pregnant. Abortions are wrong to me only because God has a plan for everyone's life and you never know what you carry in your womb. God killed the baby born to David with Besheeba as punishment for commiting adulty.

Yup - sounds just like the all loving, omnisicent God that I want to worship..... Forgives a stinking excuse for a human who cannot follow simple commandments, and kills an unborn child instead..... What a freaking Stand Up Guy this God is.....

God took the child's life - that was the consequence of David's sin. We also have consequences. Also we are not God - we cannot choose to abort if we want to. God can do anything - He made everything and He can do whatever he wants. He is in charge.
