Check for fleas first. Then take her to the vet. It could be allergies, a bug bite or all sorts of things. To be safe have her checked out.

Ah, the teenage months, so much fun. Most dogs go through this around a year old. My malamute started this stage when she was about 9 months old and just barely is getting better---she'll be a year old in January. They suddenly want to challenge everything and see if they can get away with not listening to you. You need to be firm and consistent. Don't give a command unless you are prepared to enforce it. If you tell her to sit and she doesn't, physically push her butt onto the floor, repeat the command more firmly, and praise her (but don't act too excited about it because, after all, she didn't listen the first time). When she does obey commands the first time, praise her to the heavens and make sure she knows that that is the behavior you want and expect. Your dog is just acting like a normal human teenager and the important thing is to remind her that you're still in charge and things aren't going to change just for her. Don't let her get away with unnacceptable behavior and make sure she listens to you. The good news is that once you get past this stage, as long as you've been consistent with her, you should have a well-mannered dog at the end. If she gets worse and you feel the situation is beyond your control, get help from a professional trainer.

Dogs biting themselves can be fleas, mange, dry skin or a skin disease. Fleas can be treated by flea dipping, bought at any pet supply store, then add advantage or frontline to keep it under control. Mange is very contagious, scaly, red, hair loss.... bleeds. Skin disease can be red with hair loss too, if you are thinking skin disease or mange you will have to take the dog to the vet for treatment, there is no over the counter treatment, trust me, I had a boxer whom got mange twice. If is just looks irritated, like dry skin, try shampooing with a oatmeal shampoo, but this will only help if the skin is dry.

Good luck!

It may be fleas or just a really bad itch. Just to be safe why don't you take your rottweiler to the vet and see if it actually is something more serious.

There can be many things that would cause this. It could be something as easy as she is bored. More likely it is a skin irritation. Can you see any rash or bug bites in the area where she is chewing? You can get oil to mix in with dry food to help with dry skin if that is the problem. If she doesn't stop, you'll probably need to take her to the vet to get it checked out.

Good luck.

She either has fleas a skin irritation or allergy or she is bored.Boredom is the most common reason for dogs to bite themselves.Try giving her soft toys to bite or raw hide chews, play daily with her and also check the area she is biting for inflamation hope that helps

My male rottie is 4 months and does the same thing. I say he chews it like his leg is corn on the cob. The vet says it is because he is growing so fast and it makes them feel itchy but your pup is older so I am not sure if it is the same reason.

it could be fleas...or more likely it could be allergies...a lot of dogs get these during the fall...and this fall is even worse than most. Go to your vet to get meds and possibly an injection to help relieve her of the itch.

If she is just doing it every now and then it is normal but if she is doing it obsessively she may have fleas or a skin problem

Maybe she has fleas. Check her underside belly area and under her arms.
