There are two types of priests, diocesan and religious.
Religious priests belong to a religious order like the Jesuits or Franciscans. They take a vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. All of their needs are taken care of by the order. If they make a salary, the entire amount goes back to their order.
Most priests are diocesan priests that work of a bishop in a diocese. They take a vows of chastity, and obedience, not poverty.
Diocesan Priests are paid a small salary or stipend from the parish collection for daily expenses like clothing, etc. They are also given many fringe benefits like room and board, insurance and retirement, and sometimes a car.
Most parishes are self-supporting and do not receive any money from the diocese. Very poor parishes will receive support from the diocese and some of that may go to the priest for expenses.
With love in Christ.

Priest do receive a salary from the collection plate. That salary is enough to cover basic living expenses, such as food. It is for more than just renovations and charity. The "vow of poverty" means that they do not own a home, car, or other items of value like that. It does not include the neccessities like food and clothes. Those larger items are suplied to them by the church.

The small salary of a priest is paid by the diocese in which the priest is stationed. The collection at Mass is used for upkeep of the parish property, and a percentage of it goes to the diocese. Ordinary parish priests do not take a vow of poverty. Only members of religious orders like Franciscans, Benedictines, etc. do so.

Catholic priests don't take a vow of poverty. However, the Catholic Church pays their salary. Monks make the vow of poverty.

Church attendees with the collection plate.
Yes, I am serious. A lot of it goes to the church's works, which includes the living wage of priests.

They get paid by the Diocese, from the collections taken up by parishioners. However, it's only like a nickel on the dollar, so they don't get paid much. Housing is provided.

the catholic diosce, or however its spelled, pays priests....they barely get any money but they have their housing taken care of because they live by the church...and I am sure that their pay takes care of their food needs. Most preists are not high rollers anyway.
