Avoid aspirin, it keeps the body from excreting uric acid, unless your doctor advises you to take it.

My old human biochemistry text states to avoid foods rich in purines: sweetbreads, anchovies, sardines, liver, kidneys, brains, meat extracts.

If there is cause of the high uric acid it should be treated if possible.

Drink at least 3 liters of water a day Drugs to lower uric acid levels work so well that diet restrictions may not be needed (source was published by a drug company). But they do advise losing weight.

Often times doctors treat attacks with Colchicine, no known antidote and is very deadly in overdose, keep well away from children. Diarrhea is sign to stop taking it.

Best advice it to read Merck Manual (now free online).

Low purine diet is a little helpful, but diet alone is useless. A drug to increase secretion of uric acid or lessen formation and a drug for the arthritis are indicated.

1) Think of a goal (i.e. an ideal weight/clothes size) to keep in mind at all times - weigh and measure yourself once a week to monitor loss. 2) Cut out junk food completely, replace unhealthy snacks with lower calorie/fat things and make sure you are eating lots of fruit, vegetables and lean meats. 3) Find a form of exercise that you really like, and stick at it. Always exercise at least twice a week. 4) Never lose sight of your goal! Every time you want to eat something unhealthy, just think about how you want to look, or how someone whose figure you admire looks.

Don't eat shellfish, liver or red meat. Drink lots of distilled water. I'm guessing you suffer from gout. If so, stay away from alcohol too.
