Possibly. I believe Yshua ben Ysef did exist, and that he was a great and moral teacher until he went utterly insane. So I can see support for that view.
However, some not so great men got control and used religion to further their own agenda.
That's the problem with religion -- it really depends on how people live it.

It is possible that most are.
It is not possible that one is, as Christ had no interest in improving society. Which says--if nothing else--that he was not interested in the transient systems of humankind...and therefore not "noble" in the conventional sense.
Moreover, Christ did not preach his own way of living. That is, he did not live having accepted salvation (since he is the only one who walked, walks, or will walk the earth not in need of salvation). He lived to offer salvation. What he preached, in this respect, he did not practice.
There is much about Christ that indicates that he was not a mere human. He was human, indeed...but if you study his life with willingness and an open mind, you will inevitably notice that much of what he said and did was divine. As in, he was a man, and he was God.

It's probable that most religions are the result of noble efforts and then interpreted and used to maintain control. Some religions are gained through spiritual experience.
Most societies have benefited with the advent of religion.

It takes a noble and inspired man to send the message across. However you look at them, the inspiration still comes from a higher intelligence. Each one of us have that kind of connection, there were only those who came ahead and are inspired earlier. What they said may not completely be what you already know yourself but you sometimes will wonder why and how it seems you already know these things even before you learn about it?

Religion = money, power and submission.
Kings, like king James even rewrote the book. Mormons started all over with their book. Popes had to change the books as science proved them wrong, Flat Earth& the center. Any one who can not see the billions of dollars wasted on religion IS an insecure fool. Settlements for cathoilc priest Millions of dollars. Multi millions to build cathedrals, temples and mosques. And the followers donate their 10%. at the expense of their families.

I don't think so. I think modern religion is the work of opportunists in power who saw that the masses could more easily be controlled through superstition than through threats.

"And I have the keys of hell and death, signifies that He alone can save. By "keys" is signified the power of opening and shutting; here the power of opening hell, that man may be brought forth, and of shutting, lest, when he is brought forth, he should enter again. For man is born in evils of all kinds, thus in hell, for evils are hell; he is brought out of it by the Lord, to whom belongs the power of opening it. That by "having the keys of hell and death," is not meant the power of casting into hell, but the power of saving, is because it immediately follows after these words:
Behold, I am alive for ages of ages;
by which is signified that He alone is eternal life (n. 60); and the Lord never casts anyone into hell, but man casts himself. By "keys" is signified the power of opening and shutting, in Revelation also (3:7; 9:1; 20:1; also in Isa. 22:21, 22; in Matt. 16:19; and in Luke 11:52). The power of the Lord is not only over heaven, but also over hell; for hell is kept in order and connection by oppositions against heaven; for which reason, He who rules the one must necessarily rule the other; otherwise man could not be saved; to be saved is to be brought out of hell" (Apocalypse Revealed n. 62).

exactly! I think you hit the nail on the head (I said head) sorry, a little beavis and butthead influence there :) But seriously, I think that you're right! I also find it interesting that allot of the various religions have similar basics...i.e. treat others how you want to be treated...Great observation! (you're so smart!)
