Why would an "all-powerful" god tolerate a rebellious jerk who only exists to try and take his children away from him? If there really were a god, there would be no satan. Satan is just an excuse made up by people because they're too greedy, racist, lustful, and vain to live moral lives..."the devil made me do it" is a terrific excuse for people's own weaknesses. Lets them blame this imaginary figure who's always trying to tempt them, instead of take responsibility for their own failures.
A real all-powerful god would never have allowed such a being to exist. That the myths about god and satan continually stress the battle between the two as a battle of good vs. evil contradicts the myths' own statements about an all-powerful god. It does, however, reinforce the notion that the creators of religions and god-myths throughout history understand the failings of human being all too well...

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

It certainly isn't a game. God already won when Jesus died for our sins. The victory is certain only those who will share in the victory remains a question. The rules are a lot simpler than Monopoly, all you have to do is:

"love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength." and "love your neighbor as yourself."

Huh? I'm sure that there is a point here somewhere, but it deftly eludes my efforts to impale myself upon it.

Edit: I am compelled to wonder about Christians who don't capitalize "God" or "Lord," and who spell Satan wrong...
