I have used limewire for pdf's and have not had any problem whatsoever with spyware or viruses - but that is because I make use of limewire's feature to sort by file type. Since I can see the file is a pdf (or in your case mp3) file before I ever download it, I know it's not an executible program containing maleware.
So long as you look at the file type before downloading, you shouldn't have any problems.
Also for additional safety, I set the download and upload folders to be in different locations, so if somehow I do download something bad, I won't be spreading it to others.

Neither.
Both BearShare and Limewire rat out their customers on a regular basis to the RIAA, plus they are huge spyware traps. If you want safe downloads try using Bit Torrents with a super secure client like Azerus.

My son says too many ways to catch a virus on Bear Share, he used to use it. He says Limewire appears to be safer so far no problems there.

LimeWire goes to court next month against the RIAA, they (Limewire) are getting sued to the tune of 475 million, i think. I know they are going to court next month, and they are probably going to get shut down like the others. So don't get too attached, the P2P thing is going down like the Titanic.

In my experience Limewire is written in java, so it takes a longer time to open the application.... try avoiding it, use "Ares" instead
it's open source P2P application software :)hope this helps

I actually purchased Bearshare. It works much more reliably. I have used both. Limewire blows.
