if someone is arrested for murder, how long would it be until a friend could visit them and have a chat? Would it be until after they are convicted and sent to a prison or coudl they have visitation rights while they were being held until their courtdate?

entitled to visits, once at the prison, like anybody other prisoner, whether on remand or sentenced. Visitors ring up the gaol and book a visit.

Make sure you take correct identification and adhere to the rules of the centre for visitors. He/She will be in Maximum Security.
Ask the staff when you ring what they are.

If they are being held in pre-trial, you cannot get visitation. Until after the sentancing process.
