get him to the vet and make sure there isn't anything medically wrong with him. then decrease the food you give him by 10%. though I am guessing that you free feed your cat. so you might want to get some natural choice complete core indoor weight loss

you should look at the feeding instructions and feed your cat to what his weight is there is a range, the smaller of the amount.

monitor this, if a cat looses weight too fast it screws up his liver.

It really depends on what breed of cat it is, some can get much larger than others and still be considered healthy. I have a Maine Coon and my vet has told me he is on the small size for his breed even though he weighs 14 pounds. Ask your vet this question and don't try to put your cat on a diet until you know for sure if it is overweight or not. Cats can suffer liver damage and even have liver failure and die if they lose weight too rapidly.

I have one cat that is 15 lbs and one that is probably 22. They are seriously big boned cats (okay, the second one is a little fat.)

Diet foods can be good, but also exercise is important. My cat happens to play fetch, so I throw the toy up and down the stairs for him to get exercise. I don't know any cat that can resist a laser pointer - or supervised play with yarn, shoelaces, whatever.

At www.petcenter.com there is a great article on feline obesity. The site is run by veterinarians and they alert you to the possible medical issues for the overweight cat and the proper diet to help take off the pounds.

It's such a good article that I certainly would have nothing to add except the impetative that you read it.

I just adopted a kitten age 6 months and she is as big as a full grown cat. The vet said she is just larger for her age.

Just like people animals come in small, medium and large in frame.

Not to worry, your cat is just a large cat. Just make sure he/she gets lots of exercise and doesn't get fat.

you need to limit the cat's food and increase exercise. This can be done by 15 minutes of playtime everyday. My cat weighed 23.5 lbs and we did limit his food and we have a 3 story house so I had litter box on one floor, food and water on another floor and beds on the last floor. He couldn't lose weight though because of the special food. We now have him on diet food and pills to lower caloric intake. It has been a few months and I think he has lost 1-2 pounds.

Nothing. Some dogs are truly tiny, and some cats are just plain BIG. There is nothing to worry about, if the cat isn't overweight.

How much does your cat weigh? If is is 12 pounds or less it is normal if it is more just excise him more and feed him a little less.

Try Purina weight Management food and follow exactly how it says to feed your cat. I had the same problem and my cat lost weight.
