You can use babelfish or freetranslation.com to translate simples sentences.
However, it will most likely mistranslate
-idiomatic phrases (English phrases, as well as literally translating a sentence that is idiomatic in Italian)
-all slang
-words with multiple meanings in English (especially if you are not using the primary definition)
-sentence structure changes between English and Italian
-reflexive verbs
-certain verb tenses. Imperfect and present progressive are most likely to be translated incorrectly. For example, it will translate 'I used to dance' as 'Ho usato per ballare'. Literally, 'I used (something) to dance', instead of 'Io ballavo' (In the past, I danced habitually). Also, the infinitive is used sometimes instead of the present progressive, usually when used as a noun.
Also, it may place adjectives and adverbs in the wrong place. While this is not a major concern, it can still detract from easily understanding the letter. If you're not willing to avoid those examples, your letter can end up a meaningless string of verbs and adjectives.
The best way to get an accurate translation is to have a fluent speaker translate it for you. Otherwise, start studying Italian! Learning foreign languages is always useful. :)

Don't listen to people telling you to use those online tools. These tools can only translate very simple sentences. Beyond that, the results are unpredictable. Since you don't know Italian (you asked for help, didn't you?), you can't verify the accuracy of the translation. Your Italian friend might misunderstand you. Why are people still bothering to pay a lot of money and spending a lot of time going to foreign language classes while these online tools are readily available? Don't you ever wonder? Because these tools don't work right. "No pain no gain" is still true. No cutting corner, no easy way.

Of coure it can be translated. You can use babel fish translator, search for it on google...you can write the letter in English and then just click translate to which language. Or else you can send your e-mail in English and your friend can translate it if he or she doesn't understand everything.
