What is a soul? Well, we need to go to the Bible for the answer. There are many Scriptures that show us what a soul really is. Let's read a few:
Genesis 2:7--"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Did Adam become a living, breathing person? Yes and so the soul is a person. You and I are living souls.
Exodus 1:5--"And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls:" What actually would have come out of Jacob's loins? He had children and grandchildren, etc and there were a total of 70 souls. (persons)
Leviticus 5:2--"Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty." A soul can touch something unclean and can then become unclean also.
Leviticus 7:27--"Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people."
A soul can eat. Most important of all is the fact that souls die. They are not immortal like Christendom teaches.
Ezekiel 18:20--"The soul that sinneth, it shall die."

Theres planty of proof around for those who know where to look. Think about it, the dung of a camel in the desert...does it not prove the existance of the camel itself, although you may have never seen it? Or a well worn path, does it not testify that people regularly travel that route, though you've never seen anyone pass that way? A soul has signs of existance just the same. Just like intuition. Have you ever not did something, just because you had this "Feeling" and then something really bad happens and you say your self "Holy crap! good thing I didn't do what I was going to!" Stuff like that doesnt happen randomly. Even the human body itself. The way that your heart beats is that for every beat, a small electrical discharge hits the surface muscle of the heart and makes it contract...Wheres this electricity coming from? The human body has no known way of producing such an electrical current. Even the most brilliant minds are baffled by this. So you see, there is proof...if you only know where, and HOW to look for it.

Catholics believe that the soul is the spiritual part of a human.

The soul is the essential nature of human consciousness and freedom.

Soul and body together form one unique human being.

Each human soul is individual and immortal, immediately created by God at the moment of conception.

The soul does not die with the body, from which it is separated by death, and with which it will be reunited in the final resurrection.

With love in Christ.

To be perfectly honest about it, "soul" is a kind of strange stand-in word, like "widget". It's used to refer to various different (and often non-existent) things usually in order to preserve bad arguments.

For example, it's quite obvious that the human body does not survive death. People want to believe that they do survive death. That means they need to believe that there is something to their selves other than the body, and so the "soul" is invented.

Similarly, people want to control others' sexuality, and that control is threatened by things like abortion and contraception. The "soul" is again invoked from out of the blue, to support an obviously false claim that the fertilized egg is the moral equivalent of a human being.

It's a handy little general-purpose nonsense word that gets around false arguments.

We are made up of body, spirit, and soul. Our body is just a vehicle for our soul and spirit. Our spirit is what gives us life and knowledge. Our soul is who we are. Our emotions, thoughts, and who we are. It is very hard to distinguish between our spirit and soul. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God replaces our spirit with His Spirit. We become a different being! That is why our behavior and our desires change and that is why we are called "Born Again!" Christians. Many people think that being Gay or any other sin is who they are, but they are wrong. These things they do is because of the spirit that dwells in them, enjoys doing because that is who the spirit is. Take away that spirit and you take away that desire. We can take away that spirit by replacing it with God, Himself. Then it is up to us to be faithful to the Holy Ghost. My suggestion for all is to receive God's Son, Jesus, and then God will give you the power to turn from your sins. Read and obey the Bible. Go to a Spirit Filled Church and have communion with God all day through prayer. I hope that this helps you and many others understand who we really are.

Ask them to show you oxygen, or air, you can't see it, but they exist. Ask them to show you trust, respect, love... how do you know they exist?

Soul is the essence of you...it is all you stand for, all you believe, all that you are. It is your conscience, it is you worth of yourself.
