That would depend on which translation.

Protestant and Catholic bibles differ by 6 books. The original King James had all the same books and it was called the English Standard Version. About one hundred years later, Protestants pulled a number of books that supported Catholic teachings and called it the King James Version. Anything with "standard" in the title is essentially the same book.

So as you can see, not all bibles are created equal. There are hundreds of translations. The NIV bible is extremely popular, but poorly translated. The Jerusalem Bible (original version) is a work of art. The New Jerusalem Bible is pure trash as its translators tried to make it "inclusive" and changed the meaning of some of our most important passages.

Forty isn't literal. Scholars believe it means an ample amout of time.
