I think that I understand what you are saying, and I TRY a lot of the time not to use "theology words", in part because I am not a theologian, and in part, because other people don't understand the terminology. But, the fact of the matter is that what you said in your details is exactly the truth -- "when I ask them qs's... they use Bible verses... talking to me like someone from a "different world" (again, metaphorically!) as they are not non-believers anymore, not an agnostic anymore. And they no longer speak the same "language" they used to when they weren't Christians..." After awhile, because you ARE on "a different road" from the rest of the world, and because the balance shifts eventually, and the amount of time that you have spent in churches, in Bible study, and among other Christians means that you DO develop a different language with different terminology, different definitions, different standards and so on . You may not be from "a different planet", but, you do, in essence, become a citizen of "a different world" -- And, to some extent the Bible does become your "language", because it is where the terms from that "different world" that you are trying to explain originated, and because it is where your King, and His Apostles "explained" them FIRST, FOR YOU! For instance, Jesus spoke of being "born again". Well, as Christians, we have this term, and it IS part of our "language" -- and we forget that a non-believer may have NO IDEA what we mean by the term. Even Nicodemus, who Jesus was speaking to when He used that term, and who was a priest of the temple was baffled by it, and Jesus had to try to explain it to him. But, when people ask questions "not related" to Christianity (although, truth be told, when you ARE a Christian, there is little, if anything in life that is "not related" to Christianity, one way or another.) I will try to answer that question that they asked. Much of the time, I may not use Bible verses for "non-spiritual" questions, but, occasionally I might. However, because I am a Christian, wouldn't it be "abnormal" if the impact of my Christian beliefs didn't also impact my answer, at least, most of the time??? If a person is asking a sincere "spiritual" question, however, we have an obligation to answer them, to the best of our ability if we can, with a spiritual, AND A SCRIPTURAL answer, again, to the best of our ability, and we pray, God helping us to do so rightly. While we MIGHT not always use Bible verses, or post them as a resource, we are to answer as Christians, from a Biblical perspective. In fact, to do otherwise would be dishonest, and it would be a sin -- because OUR opinion is not what matters on spiritual questions. It is the "opinion" or the position of God and the faith that we represent that matters at that point. Do that make sense to you?

Yes, anyone who receives this gift today, uses it.
Speaking in Tongues is largely misunderstood. While some people can speak of Prophecy through this gift, it is mostly Praise that comes out with this gift.
The heart becomes so full of Joy and our own language cannot express in words the Joy we feel. So the Holy Spirit takes over and expresses it for us.

ALL through out the bible, when it says ,speaking in tongues, it is NOT talking about some off the wall gibber jabber,, IT IS TALKING ABOUT SPEAKING MORE THAN ONE LANGUAGE, SO EVERY ONE UNDER THE SUN, COULD UNDERSTAND what was being said.... the 12 did not speak in a hundred different languages that day. They spoke in their OWN language, and it was received by those that were there and listening in their very own language, and that's the REAL STORY.... No speaking in a lot of weird unheard of unintelligible words!!!!!!! And PAUL said himself, that even that has ceased, that means even in his day it was over, done with, NO MORE,,, read ALL the bible not just the parts some preacher tells you to read. STUDY IT ALL FOR YOURSELF, AND SEE THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE, FROM BEING fooled BY MEN THAT ARE FALSE IN THE TEACHINGS OF THE DOCTORINE OF CHRIST..

Speaking in tongues is not a church thing, or a religion thing, it is a spiritual thing... actually it is a gift. If you read the bible, there are those that have the gift of speaking in tongues, and those that have the gift of translating it.
I think that any church that "teaches" the speaking of tongues is a scam. Read the bible, it never mentions the teaching of speaking in tongues!

I have never witnessed it but I suppose if someone was lead by the holy spirit it could happen. I know there are conditions that surround it. I have heard of the speaking in tongues but they never met the conditions set down in the bible, so I would think it a lie.

Yes, we occasionally have someone speaking in tongues in our church, and then someone else usually has an interpretation. When it does come it is really fitting and relates perfectly to what God has already been saying through worship/preaching.

I agree with DuckPhup... it's been misinterpreted to mean speaking in gibberish. Anyone can do this and not be possessed by the holy spirit. I offer the following proof below.

Absolutely! I'm all about it, but it's not a requirement by any means. Some people dont' speak in tongues and that's okay too. But speaking in tongues is one of the Spiritual Gifts God gave us and He didn't take any of them back.

Absolutely. Not all denominations practice pentecostal worship. But, let me assure you, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are real and they are in operation today.

Most definitely yes, it is necessary, because speaking in tounges is the evidence of being baptized with the Holy Spirt. Jesus said, "and you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you". Today's church needs the power of the Holy Spirti to fulfill its mission in the end times.
