The last thing you want to do is give her a stool softener, then!!!! :-/

If she has borborygmous (the medical term for the grumbling you hear), she's likely getting ready to have a bout of diarrhea from some sort of intestinal upset. If you give you a softener, you'll likely make it even worse.

Call her regular DVM. They can review her chart and tell you over the phone something that is safe for you to try. NO ONE here can do that. (I can tell you that Pepto Bismol or Kaopectate are often used successfully, but it's illegal for anyone to give you a dose over the Internet. Your veterinarian's office can tell you.) You can also ask to pick up a can or two of I/D (a prescription intestinal diet) that can help if you catch it early enough. They should give you a handout form along with it, telling you how and why it works, and how to use it.

If she starts vomiting, quits eating, or is just no better by tomorrow, you need to figure out a way to take her in....even if it means borrowing money from a friend or relative, asking your boss for an advance on your next paycheck, or selling something at a pawn shop. Tell them upfront that you WANT to do what's necessary, but that money is an issue at the moment, and they'll try to help you by prioritizing what needs to be done one thing at a time, rather than running a bunch of tests all at once. Trust me...this situation comes up all the time, and we DO understand that not everyone just won the lottery last week. (In the future, however....you need to start her own little private medical fund, by setting aside $5-10 a week. It's only a matter of time before she has other medical issues that will need to be addressed...and if they are life-threatening, you need to be prepared for that expense.) Also, try CareCredit.com. (Not all veterinarians accept it, however, because they charge us substantial handling fees.)

Good luck!!! (And if you're feeding her "people" food....please STOP, before she gets a severe case of HGE or pancreatitis....which will put her in the hospital for several days and cost you hundreds of dollars.)

P.S. Adding acidophilus powder (available at any store that sells vitamins, etc.) to her food often helps straighten out mild cases of bacterial imbalances in the GI tract that can cause what you describe. There's no specific 'dose'...and it can't hurt in any way. All it is is the "good" bacteria that all mammals need to help maintain healthy GI tracts. (It's the same bacteria that's in yogurt, but you can't give her yogurt.) Make sure you keep the acidophilus bottle in the refrigerator after you open it. But if she's really grumbly, you want to hold her OFF food for a day or two....which is why you really need to call YOUR vet and see what is recommended for YOUR pet. You haven't given enough information for anyone to tell you any different.

sugar free gummy worms. The dogs love them and the sugar subsitute acts as a softner.

Give her a couple of spoonfuls of canned pumpkin. Works great.
